Muban Educational Trust

The Muban Educational Trust (MET), previous known as the Muban Foundation, is a small charitable organisation based in London. 

It is dedicated to raising the profile and re-vitalizing the field of contemporary Chinese printmaking.

MET administers a collection of more than 6500 Chinese woodblock prints from the last 250 years with a particular emphasis on prints from the late 20th century.

The Muban Education Trust Woodblock Printmaking Award

In order to identify and reward young talents in contemporary Chinese printmaking, MET offers an annual printmaking award which invites submissions from young printmakers from all areas of mainland China.  The first and second MET Awards were held in 2015 and 2016, both have been great successes – 30 young artists have been shortlisted and 5 winners have been awarded.

Wu Jiantang


Wu Jiangtang’s prints are from plywood blocks, finely cut in a ragged, splintery manner, they of fantasies, dream like images of people acting out in landscapes that play with perspectival conventions.

Wu Jiantang was born in Pingba, Guizhou in 1986.

2010 BA Sichuan Fina Art College, Printmaking Department;

2015 Stayed in Taiwan Fine Art University as Exchange student between Centre Fine Art College

Cao Ou

Cao Ou was born in Heze, Shandong in 1987.

He passed the entrance examination for the Printmaking Department of the China Academy of Fine Arts in 2007, he was awarded a BA degree in 2011.

Cao was awarded his MA degree in Printmaking from the Academy in 2015, since then he has been working and living in Hangzhou.

He was shortlisted for the First Muban Educational Trust Woodblock Printmaking Award in 2014.

Shi Lei

Shi Lei was born in Tianjin in 1982.

In 2001 he passed the examination for entry to study Plastic Arts in the Printmaking Department in the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts , he was awarded a BA degree in 2005, remaining in the Academy to teach. 

In 2012 he became a research student in the Printmaking Department.

He was shortlisted for the First Muban Educational Trust Woodblock Printmaking Award in 2014.

Gu Xiuhua

 

Gu Xiuhuia was born in Liyi City in Shandong.

In 2008, he passed the examination for entry to the Printmaking Department of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Art to study printmaking.

In 2013, he rejoined the Tianjin Academy as a post-graduate student in the

Printmaking department under the supervision of Prof. Sun Shiliang.

Gu Xiuhua is the First Prize winner of the Muban Educational Trust Woodblock Printmaking Award in 2015.

Qing Yujian

Qing Yujian was born in Shaoyang City, Hubei in 1989.

In 2009, she passed the examination for entry to the Printmaking Department in the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, she was awarded a BA degree in 2013. Qing is currently studying

 for an MA degree under the supervision of Prof. Sun Shiliang with a special interest in wood engraving.

She was shortlisted for the First Muban Educational Trust Woodblock Printmaking Award in 2014.

Guo Shuang

Guo Shuang was born in Taikang County, Zhoukou City in Henan in 1990.

In 2014 she was awarded a BA degree from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Art and 

is currently Young Artist in Residence at the Academy.

Gu Xiuhua is the  joint First Prize winner of the Muban Educational Trust Woodblock Printmaking Award in 2015.
